About Algerian Design
Algerian homes centre around the family and women's activities. The house both nurtured Orientalist fantasies and signified opposition to colonialism
Reflecting the values of privacy and insulation, traditional homes also are walled in. The rooms form a circle around a patio or enclosed courtyard. Traditional building materials are whitewashed stone or brick, and in older houses, the ceilings and upper parts of the walls are decorated with tiled mosaics.
